COVID-19 POLICY

THIS POLICY IS SUBJECT TO CONSTANT CHANGE AS THE SITUATION EVOLVES

These terms apply to all new bookings and supersede any payment agreements that were in place prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Updated 4th May 2022: We have eased our Covid policy for amendments and existing bookings. We are proactively monitoring the situation and have put in health and safety measures to ensure peace of mind when you stay with us.

The following T&Cs apply:

  • These terms apply to FIT bookings only (not group bookings).
  • New bookings can be held provisionally for up to 14 days, upon which time written confirmation, together with a receipt of the 20% deposit is required. (Receipt constitutes the deposit reflecting in LPD Safaris Ltd (Sungani) bank account.)
  • Should the deposit not reflect in LPD Safaris Ltd (Sungani) bank account within the above time frame, the space will automatically release back into the system for resale.
  • Sungani’s standard T&Cs apply to all balance payments.
  • All travellers are advised to obtain CAFR (Cancel for any reason) travel insurance at the time of booking.
  • Excluded: testing positive prior to departure from country of origin. This is a medical cause that must be covered by the traveller’s insurance.

CANCELLATION AND POSTPONEMENT

If at the point of cancellation that one or more of the Covid-19 related restrictions listed below bear upon the guest’s arrival dates, the following will apply:

Cancellation due to Covid-19 up to 90 days prior to travel the 20% deposit is refundable. Between 89 and 1 day prior to travel, the payment can be used for future travel – no full refund will be given.

Cancellation due to any other reasons than Covid-19, our standard cancellation policy will apply.

Covid-19 related restrictions include:

  • If Sungani properties in Zambia that the guest was due to visit are temporarily closed.
  • If the government of Zambia has closed its borders to international travellers.
  • If the government of Zambia has declared that no visas will be issued to travellers from the country of origin of the guest.
  • If the government of the guest’s country of residence has closed its borders to all but essential travel.
  • If the government of Zambia has imposed a mandatory quarantine upon entering the country.

POSTPONEMENT

For postponements, travel needs to be within 18 months of existing travel dates.​ The booking value of an existing booking will be reserved for the new booking. Should the booking change to a higher rated season, the difference will be invoiced.

SUNGANI COVID SAFETY ASSURANCES

Your safety and the safety of our staff is our top priority. Zambia is fully open for regional, domestic tourism and international tourism. We aim to keep you updated with the latest information from here in Zambia. We are working with the Zambian Ministry of Health and Ministry of Tourism to implement safety and sanitary practices.

These conditions to change by Zambian Ministry of Health without notice.

  • Fully vaccinated travellers do not require a PCR test to enter Zambia but will need to provide proof of their vaccination status. Fully vaccinated means complete doses of a vaccine for example first and second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Those who are unvaccinated will have to provide a negative PCR taken no more than 72 hours prior to arrival in Zambia.
  • Visitors are responsible for monitoring their condition for 14 days after arrival and should report any occurrence of COVID-19 symptoms to medical authorities. There is no requirement for visitors or residents to self-isolate.
  • While it is not mandatory for international travellers to have in their possession travel insurance covering the COVID-19 test and quarantine costs it is highly recommended. Please check with your insurer regarding quarantine accommodation costs prior to travel.
  • Please take note of your own country’s policy for re-entry back home as some countries may differ and policies are ever-changing.
  • Please be aware of the policy of countries you fly in transit through as these might differ from both your country of origin and the country you are visiting (Zambia).
  • Please note that Sungani will not be held responsible for flight delay or cancellation, visa refusal, or entry measures. If a guest must quarantine in our lodge or camp, this will be at the guests cost and they will be invoiced directly.

PROTOCOLS

We want you to visit us with the knowledge and confidence that we have taken the necessary precautions to keep you safe without compromising your stay with us. Please see a set of protocols that we are implementing.

Whilst Covid-19 proactive measures (social distancing and wearing masks) are no longer mandatory by law in Zambia, our team will adhere to this in a confined space or upon your request.

We have carefully amended our protocols to ensure you are safe and still getting an incredible safari experience. Mostly you will spend your time outdoors, dining outside on the deck, enjoying the comforts of your room or spotting animals on outdoor activities.

OUR TEAM

  • 99% vaccinated.
  • Our staff receive temperature checks when they return to work after being off and are monitored closely.
  • Incidents of high temperatures are immediately directed to our managers.
  • Practices include wearing face masks in confined spaces, regular handwashing, social distancing/ isolation after contact with a COVID-19 patient/symptoms, and no handshaking or hugging.
  • All Field Guides, key Front-of-House Staff, and Managers to ensure the above is being observed by staff. Training completed during operational hours.

GENERAL HYGIENE

  • Hand sanitiser will be available throughout each property and in vehicles/plane.
  • Guests and pilot asked to wear masks while in the aircraft during the transfer.
  • Staff will not wear masks unless in a confined space or upon request from the guest.
  • As far as possible, check-in and check-out timings will be spaced out, and may be amended to leave enough time for thorough sanitisation of the room.
  • Permission will be sought from guests to handle their luggage. All hard luggage and handles will be disinfected before being handled by a housekeeper.
  • Extra cleaning protocols in tents and our communal areas with a focus on high-contact areas and items like door handles, cutlery, tea/coffee stations, books, and board games.
  • Rooms will be sanitised to the highest of standards before each guest stay, with particular attention to light switches, door handles, and other ‘high touch’ areas.
  • Dining will continue on a private basis with tables well-spaced out.
  • Kitchen/waiter staff to follow strict sanitisation procedures during the preparation and serving of food.
  • Guests will be asked to sanitise before and after entering the gift shop. Guests will be limited to one group at a time. Bills are to be settled by credit card instead of cash, if possible.

SUNGANI MEDICAL ASSITANCE

  • All guests should have medical insurance for the purpose of their trip and medical evacuation. There are limited medical evacuation services.
  • Limited Mfuwe Doctor services at the Guest’s cost.
  • There are limited COVID testing facilities in Mfuwe. The testing company can travel to Sungani S.T.A. to take swabs for a fee of $100 per person. Sungani would charge an extra $200 for the round trip to Mfuwe.
  • Health Department will be made aware of suspected cases and will take over at the expense of the guest.
