SUNGANI (suhn-gah–nee)
from the blended Chichewa language,
meaning custodian or keeper.

SUNGANI LODGE

The lodge has been designed with privacy and relaxation in mind. It is a joy to tell you that the majority of what you will find at Sungani has been created by the family and local people.

Skills taught and learnt, calamities overcome, culminating in some quirky details that add to the relaxed atmosphere and charm. Structures edged by a bountiful lagoon and sheltered by magnificent indigenous trees, showcasing the natural tones of the bush, blend seamlessly into the landscape. The entire lodge is built on elevated decking, affording the ability to wander around during the day. The main area of the lodge has a variety of living spaces where your time is uninterrupted, and the space is yours to do as you please.

THE CUISINE

The cuisine is clean and simple while remaining sensitive to the traditional and delicious. We are extremely remote, and we endeavour to source/support local as much as possible. Please let your agent or our reservations team know about any dietary or allergies in advance.

  • At Sungani we serve an à la carte’ breakfast. Indulge in something cooked and savoury straight from the grill at our breakfast bar or opt for a grab ‘n go affair. Refreshing juices, homemade granola, fruit, jams, local honey, warm muffins, waffles, or pancakes and more. Sip some freshly ground local coffee while you sit out on the sun-drenched main deck watching the South Luangwa wake up.
  • Lunch is a relaxed, unfussy delicious buffet style spread, served on the main deck. A mix of quality meats, hearty salads, homemade bread rolls, a hot plate option and flavourful condiments. Enjoy a lunch time G&T, crisp glass of wine, or a mocktail while you relax.
  • Afternoon tea, a tribute to a bygone era, is served out on the main deck. Freshly baked sweet treats and a scrumptious savoury option.
  • Our dinner menu changes seasonally, and we aim to introduce African flavours where we can. Our focus is on locally sourced meat, vegetables, and fresh garden herbs.
  • Our bar is open to you from mid-morning serving a limited cocktail/mocktail menu, fine wines, beers, and spirits. A tea and coffee bar where you can help yourself or have one our team to assist is available throughout the day. Opt for a gentle wakeup call with a tea or coffee tray delivered to your room.
