Unique privileged location

  • 25km’s from our nearest operator and 90km’s from Mfuwe airport meaning remote, pristine and untouched wilderness.

Exclusivity

  • We are in the most southern section of the national park and have national park on the other side of the river allowing exclusive access to sightings.

Community and Conservation at our core

  • Much of what you see on site is hand-built by local people that now work as the core team for both properties.
  • We have transformed a very neglected area of the South Luangwa National Park into a wildlife haven teeming with flora and fauna.
  • Over the past few years, our family have been contributing to the efforts of Conservation South Luangwa and DNPW by creating roads, firebreaks and other infrastructure as well as deploying patrols by boat in the rainy season, assisting the Department of National Parks and Wildlife and CSL to conduct their essential duties.
  • Our family has supported CSL’s work through donations and fundraising efforts, with a successful match funding campaign that raised a total of $50,000 and culminated in a total $75,000 inflow in 2022 towards wildlife protection. In 2023, Sungani committed a further $25,000 towards a match fund to support CSL’s work in conjunction with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife and managed to raise close to $68,000. We have committed to do the match funding well into the future.

Family owned and operated

  • We are a family owned and run business which provides a high level of personalisation to the guest experience, and we have invested for the long term to hopefully protect even more parts of the park.

Self-sufficient

  • Due to the remoteness of the national park, we have invested in all the heavy equipment to allow us to create this offering and be able to help the local communities with their road access all the way to Mfuwe. We have also been able to build and maintain road networks which help our conservation partners and allows for better game viewing opportunities. Our guest contribution is put back into our area and the wider area.

Solar powered

  • The lodge and camp are run off solar power with a backup generator if required. Both properties have a filtration plant to clean the borehole water which is then further treated through reverse osmosis making it safe (and delicious) to drink.

Airplane and Airstrip

  • We maintain the closest airstrip where larger aircraft can land, and we own an airplane so our guests are easily transferred from Mfuwe to the airstrip in just 30 minutes.

Photography Focused

  • Photographic Hides – A hide adjacent to a prolific waterhole, a mobile carmine hide, and a viewing platform at the prolific Sungani lagoon – more to come as we continue to innovate.
  • Photographic Equipment Hire and Studio – Guests can hire of latest Canon and Nikon Mirrorless equipment across both properties. Sungani Lodge features a photographic studio which is a dedicated space equipped with desks and a casual seating area for guests to edit and process their images. We feature a 27” Apple studio desktop which is loaded with the latest Adobe software.
  • Our Head Guide is our in-house wildlife photographer so he will be able to assist guests during their stay.

Luxury lodge and camp

  • High quality amenities, linen, AC, private pools, game viewing from your deck/around lodge & camp. The properties give quite different experiences in terms of location and design while maintaining the Sungani brand quality.
  • We offer a luxury experience in a remote location that provides a feeling of comfort and laid-back as understated elegance prevails.

Custom designed safari vehicles

  • Our new vehicles have modified suspension, individual luxury seats, comfortable footrests, and nifty spaces and holders for an array of equipment.

Excellent Guiding

  • Zambia is known for its excellent guiding and our guides are testament to that. They are all level 1 walking guides who have 10-20+ year guiding. Our safaris give a sense of participation. The kind of experiential experience – is unhurried, authentic, and deeply emotive.
